“We were fighting in our own murky world where rules didn’t exist, using whatever weapons came to hand.”

A marriage founded on deception, secrets, and duplicity, that leads to the ultimate betrayal.

Newly married Natasha seems to have it all, a sublime, luxurious life, a doting husband Nick, and a lovely daughter Emily. Nick’s ex-wife, Jen, however, seems to be a constant presence in their life, ceaselessly positioning herself into family events, driving a wedge between Natasha’s and Nick’s marriage. As the strain in their marriage starts burgeoning, and ultimately reaches its maximal extent, Natasha starts making plans to escape with Emily. But before she can leave, she returns home one day to find both Nick and Emily gone. Seeking whatever means necessary to get her daughter back, Natasha finds an unlikely ally in Jen. But how much can she trust the woman who is the most likely cause of her husband and daughter’s disappearance?

This book had me hooked from the prologue. There were so many twists and turns, just when I thought I had it all figured out, there was another curve in the plot that opened up so many more revelations. I loved how intriguing Sam’s character was, and how well he was developed despite being not being one of the main parts. The multiple povs and the different timelines also added to the level of suspense. Overall I loved the plot, the characters, and the writing style; this book surely is one of my favourite psychological thrillers

Happy reading! 🦢
